With a sister restaurant on Barbados, this is the last word in relaxed Italian dining
Where is it?
The closest tube to Daphne's is South Kensington, and it's located on the cusp of South Ken and Chelsea in Brompton. Inside, expect a large conservatory area for the alfresco feel, and an open-plan restaurant area.
What's it like?
Founded by theatre agent Daphne Rye in 1964, the venue is modern, light, airy and relaxed. Her stage and screen contemporaries made this place fashionable at the time, and these days the great and good still flock here. Recent guests such as Geri Halliwell and Michael Caine show the high calibre of the clientele, who flock here to try such delights as antipasti, pan-fried calf's liver and roasted rabbit with polenta. Delicioso! Prices are really reasonable, with most main courses around £15 or so. The all-Italian wine list features house wine at just £14 up to Sauvignon Runcon delle Mele at £100.
Why does Johnny Ikon love it?
I just love the simple, well-cooked food, the beautiful interiors and the top-notch guest list. I love Daphne's in Barbados too, so it's a nice reminder of wonderful holidays!
