Some say this place is style over substance, but I disagree. The food rocks!
Where is it?
On the corner of Kensington Park Road and Blenheim Crescent, E and O (Eastern and Oriental) is a stone's throw from Portobello, Ladbroke Grove and Notting Hill Gate. It's easy to spot as the building is a large black and white statement structure with red signage.
What's it like?
Step into Manhattan: Madonna and Stella are in the corner, supermodels surround them, the food is pan-Asian and the drinks are cocktails instead of bottles of wine. The decor is dark wood, and shiny stainless steel and white linen abound. The only area where the Big Apple has E and O beat is customer service: the staff here are crisp and frequently inefficient unless they know you. The food makes up for it though. The dim sum rocks if you're staying in the bar area and want something light, fluffy and tasty. The main courses in the restaurant are infamous though: particularly the blackened cod made famous by rivals Nobu, and the chicken and lychee green curry is delicious too. Cocktails only cost £6 or £7, which is something of a bargain.
Why does Johnny Ikon love it?
Just because a venue is stylish does not mean it's a case of 'style over substance' - the food here is top-notch and inexpensive, and when the media types move on there will still be a loyal crowd of W11'ers packing this place out simply for great food.
